雅思大作文的词汇量一直是很多考生的心病，尤其对于目标分数7分及以上的同学。很多同学也会在考前花费大量的时间和精力背诵词汇，但效果却不尽如人意。很多考生反映：在考场上，考前所背的词汇很少用到或者有一些词考场上根本来不及反映，但考试之后却又突然想起。朗阁海外考试研究中心的老师通过对大量考生习作的总结，发现考生作文中存在诸多词汇方面的问题，归根结底是缺乏正确的词汇学习方法。那么在短暂的备考时间里，如何有效地利用时间，积累起我们所需要的词汇呢?

原则一：话题词汇记忆优于首字母排序的记忆

现在市面上很多类型的词汇书籍，很大一部分是按照A、B、C、D、…的字母顺序进行列举排列的，对考生来说，单纯的按照字母顺序背诵单词的话，不仅枯燥，而且很有可能会导致词汇的混淆、甚至背诵了大量用不到的词汇。众所周知，雅思写作考试大作文的题目都是涉及到特定话题的，常见的话题有：社会类、教育类、环境类、政府类、犯罪类、媒体类等。如果考生能熟练掌握相关话题的常见表达，就能在考场上更加有效地进行运用。因为Part 2部分的作文时间分配大约是40分钟，而在如此短的时间内，完成至少250字的作文，对很多“烤鸭”而言，还是非常紧迫的。这就要求考生们能在有限的时间内，提取出自己掌握的词汇。如果按首字母顺序背诵单词，很多词汇与话题的关联度并不是很高，很难让考生立即想到并运用起来。然而，话题词汇的积累却能帮助我们联想到与题目话题相关的词汇或词组。

例如：

Some people argue that students learn more effectively when they studying in groups than studying alone.

Discuss benefits of both and give your opinion.

从题目中的“students”, “learn”, “studying in groups”, “studying alone”可以很快知道这是一篇教育类话题的作文，关键词是“studying in groups”, “studying alone”, 分析两种学习方式的好处。按照话题分类背诵词汇，就可以帮助我们联想到教育类的相关词汇、词组，如：impart knowledge; instill; compete; poor academic performance; self-discipline; distract; highly motivated; creative thinking; aptitude; dampen the students’ enthusiasm等。

例如：

The environment problems facing today’s world are so great that there is little ordinary people can do to improve the situation. Government and large companies should be responsible for reducing the amount of damage being done to the environment.

To what extent do you agree or disagree?

从题目中的“the environment problems”, “the amount of damage”, “the environment”可以确定这是一篇环境类话题的作文，主要讨论的是环境问题应该由谁来解决的问题。如果考生有提前准备充足的环境类话题词汇的话，就可以在审题之后有的放矢，游刃有余，回忆出相关词汇，如：emission, poisonous, pollutant, waste fuel, a livable environment, sustainable development, environmentally conscious citizens, clean technology, disposable products, harmful substance, recycle, eco-friendly等。

例如：Some people think the increasing business and cultural contact between countries brings many positive effects. Others say it causes the loss of national identities.

Discuss on both sides and give your own opinion.

从题目中的“business and cultural contact”可以知道这是一篇关于文化旅游类话题的作文，所以就需要考生们掌握一些相关的词汇，如cultural insights, has its value, inspiration, scope of knowledge, break with old customs等。

所以广大考生在雅思学习的过程中可以按照重点话题分类，积累大量的词汇、词组，这样能帮助我们在写作时，准确地回忆起相关词汇，节约大量的时间，从而可以在整个写作过程中妙笔生花。
